Many jurisdictions (EU, UK, Canada, Australia, Russia, China, several Middle East and African states) require certain data to stay within their borders or to flow only to adequacy-recognized jurisdictions. Why residency matters

Beyond legal compliance, data residency affects latency (closer storage = faster API), redundancy (cross-region failover), and political risk (regulators in your jurisdiction can subpoena local data; foreign data may require MLAT processes).

Default and pinned regions

Audit trail residency

The audit trail and audit certificates inherit the document's storage region, they're never moved to a different region for processing or archival.
