Frequently asked questions
Can I really edit the text inside a PDF?
Yes. Clicking a line and typing over it replaces the original text-drawing instruction in the file, rather than covering it with a white box. That is why the rest of the line does not move and why the old words are not still underneath.
Will the edit match the rest of the page?
Where the PDF’s own embedded font can represent your characters, the replacement is set in that font at the original size and position. Where it cannot, the editor falls back to a standard face and says so, instead of quietly changing how the page reads.
How is this different from putting a black box over text?
A black box is a shape drawn on top of text that is still in the file: copy the page and the words come straight back out. Redacting here deletes the text operators themselves, then re-parses the file it produced and searches the cleared areas to confirm nothing survived.
Does it find text hidden inside nested content?
Yes. Text can live inside a Form XObject with its own coordinate system, where a page-level pass never sees it. On a redaction that is a leak rather than a cosmetic bug, so the scan follows those down.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened, edited and rebuilt entirely in your browser tab, so there is no server copy of it. For a sensitive document that is the whole point.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?
A scan is a picture of a page, so there is no text to click or delete. Run the OCR tool first to make it searchable, then edit it here.
Can I fill a form that has no fillable fields?
Yes. Use Type to place text anywhere on the page, and the tick and cross tools for checkboxes. If the PDF does have real form fields, the editor finds them and fills those instead.
